Level novice or proficiency? Come and see what level you are depending on the skills you have.
0 – Novice : You have no prior knowledge of the language. 0,5 – Beginner :You can understand certain words in a conversation but you cannot yet communicate. 1 –Elementary :You have acquired the basic grammatical structures and have a limited vocabulary (500-600 words). You feel fairly comfortable in day to day situations, you understand written language better than spoken. Using the present tenses you have reached the stage of communication. 1,5 –Pre Intermediate : You can hold a conversation but you are still very hesitant, false friends and misunderstandings are common. You understand a conversation with difficulty.You can take notes, write an e-mail. 2 –Intermediate I :The three basic tenses, past, present and future, are acquired. You are able to hold a conversation on your hobbies, your work and your everyday life. You have reached the stage of general communication. 2,5 – Intermediate 2 : You are able to hold a conversation about different topics, you have started using more complex grammar forms (idiomatic expressions, conditionals, modal verbs) but you are not able to nuance your speech. You make structural and lexical mistakes. 3 – Intermediate 3 : In a meeting you can follow everything without necessarily being able to take part actively. You cannot yet negotiate. You can read a newspaper and have acquired the basic written structures. You have reached the stage of being operational. 3,5 – Advanced : You are capable of participating in any sort of conversation with more than one person at a time. Although you have mastered the basic tenses and regularly use the more complex structures, you still make some grammatical mistakes. 4 – Confirmed : You speak the language fluently, you can take the initiative during conversations and have mastered the more complex tenses.Your level allows you to negotiate, to persuade and to make a presentation. Although you are capable of writing a report or a letter, you still need to work on the tone and style of your written correspondence. You have reached the stage of bilingualism. 4,5 – Proficiency : You can pass from one language to another without effort, you can hold debates, conferences and seminars thanks to your command of the language. You would like to progress in particular fields of the language requiring very specific vocabulary. |
